About Me

My Background & Experience

My route to learning design has been anything but standard! My career began as a Program Director for the YMCA, where I spent six years developing and nurturing youth programs. This role honed my ability to solve problems by developing new staff trainings. My time at the Y lead me to further my passion for learning as I regularly found myself asking questions about how to improve learning and training.

The next seven years of my career were spent in the classroom, teaching middle and high school history. During this time, I eagerly explored how technology could enhance learning. I had the opportunity to complete Microsoft's Educator Training and partnered with others in the school district to  train instructional staff on creating virtual notebooks with Microsoft OneNote, developing self-paced lessons in Nearpod, and designing units in Canva. While working with district leaders, I realized I wanted to have an even larger impact on learning and began pursuing a Masters of Education in Instructional Design.

Over the past three years as a Learning Experience Designer, I have successfully managed projects of varying scales, including large-scale enterprise initiatives such as implementing Multi-Factor Authentication for over 9,000 staff. I have designed and facilitated training sessions for hundreds of employees on topics like navigating a new Learning Management System (LMS) and onboarding for a new Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) system. The most recent project I've completed is the development of a training for directors on interviewing best practices consisting of an asynchronous e-learning course and video that established foundational knowledge, along with two synchronous sessions for practice.

I excel in collaborating with cross-functional teams, working closely with colleagues from various departments to achieve common goals. My ability to communicate effectively and build strong relationships has been instrumental in driving project success and fostering a collaborative work environment. Additionally, I possess strong project management skills, enabling me to oversee complex projects from inception to completion. My experience includes planning, executing, and monitoring projects to ensure they meet objectives and are delivered on time. I am also proficient in using e-learning authoring tools, which allows me to create engaging and interactive learning content. My expertise includes tools such as Articulate Storyline and Rise, Adobe Premier Pro and Illustrator, and Vyond, enabling me to design and develop high-quality e-learnings.

My passion lies in understanding how people think and learn, what motivates them to grow, and how technology can enhance our perception of ourselves and the world. Through my work, I strive to continuously improve the learning experience, valuing data-driven decision-making while maintaining a strong focus on the human perspective.

Outside of Work

I am a lifelong dancer with a passion for all styles and genres. My current obsessions are flying trapeze and fire dancing, most specifically fans and dragon staff. I'm also a certified aerial and acrobatics instructor (think Cirque Du Soleil) and specialize in Silks/Tissue and Lyra/Hoop.

When the weather is nice, I love taking walks and exploring new places with my dogs, Yui and Mac N Cheese. My husband and I enjoy spending time together watching anime, hanging out in our backyard grilling, and playing DND.

My favorite book genres are historical fiction and time travel. My two favorite reads as of late have been Rules of Civility by Amor Towles and How to Stop Time by Matt Haig.

I am the author of the 2021 book Asmara's Exciting Journey, a children's book about exploring imagination, available on Amazon.
